Shattering Stigma - Reframing and Connecting to Find Purpose

What We Do and How You Can Help:

  1. We have launched the Pinned2Purpose Podcast (please see below).

Contact us if you would like to be a guest or become a sponsor.

  2. Geoff Moore gives motivational talks based on Lived Experience.

  3. Interactive workshops to combat stigma and promote discussion to normalize mental health for companies, organizations and schools starting with experiential learning through getting pinned with the bench press exercise.

With Alf Moore, my Dad's cousin, at 105-years-old. He reframed his life with humour and gratitude, beginning every day by looking in the mirror and saying: "Oh, good, you're still here! Happy Birthday Alf!! " :)

“I am sharing a story about my personal experiences…in the hopes that it will help other people.”

The Red Bike

The red bike in the logo of Pinned2Purpose symbolizes hope and transformation and has two sources.

I bought the bike in the photo from a garbage picker in Accra, Ghana in June 2016 on a visit with two of my kids to see a social entrepreneur named Ernest Gavor who I was mentoring on behalf of the organization Enablis. The bike was put together from aerosol lids, Nescafé cans and other discarded items which were reconstituted into something beautiful.  Everyone has shattered pieces at times, but there is always the possibility of a new chapter with a more beautiful future that was once hard to imagine.  Never forget that!

The second meaning is based on the Red Bike Moment that changed Muhammad Ali's destiny. I learned about this in the summer of 2017 when I was on a road trip with my eldest son that included a stop in Louisville, Kentucky and a visit to the Muhammad Ali Center.

At twelve years old, Cassius Clay (Muhammad Ali) was given a red Schwinn bicycle by his parents, but it was stolen in Louisville and Cassius was devastated. He went to fill out a police report and met with Sergeant Joe Martin who was also an amateur boxing coach.  Martin invited him to come to his gym and try boxing the next day, and this serendipitous moment changed his destiny and put him on the path to becoming "The Greatest"!

At the Muhammad Ali Center, people from around the world are invited to send in their Red Bike Moments to share their stories of overcoming adversity and finding purpose. Mental health conditions and challenges are certainly examples of real adversity, but also never forget that each and every one of us can aspire to their own Red Bike Moment!  This cannot be accomplished alone, however, hence the number 2 in Pinned2Purpose - the transformation can start by lightening the weight you are carrying by talking to someone and embarking on a healing journey with additional support. There is NO shame in that.  We are all human and any of us can get pinned depending on what life delivers.

Today is always the best day to accept a hand-up.  And when you are no longer pinned, it is also the best day to offer a listening ear and a hand-up to others!

The Pinned2Purpose Podcast

A series of authentic conversations with a variety of guests intended to provide hope and insights for people who are “pinned”.

Guests on the podcast will be asked to share their own experiences of healing and contributions to mental well-being.  Discussions about purpose will seek to provide inspiration for people on healing journeys to find their own North Star which can be an important piece of the puzzle in creating resilience and helping them thrive in the future.
